About Us: The Ford Difference
The Ford Center for Reading is one of a kind. We are the leaders of the reading revolution™, which closes the research to practice gap and successfully provides all children with precise reading instruction.
The latest multidisciplinary scientific research on the brain and learning informs our daily work. Using what the fields of medicine, education, psychology, sociology, and linguistics teach us about learning, we endeavor to develop the underlying sensory-cognitive and meta-cognitive skills in every child that allow for independent triumphant application of those skills in any environment- for the rest of the student’s life
Modern neuroimaging technology proves that the type of instruction offered at The Ford Center for Reading can cause brains with faulty processing to be “re-wired,” normalize, and work successfully. We employ multi-sensory instructional practices designed to engage the entire brain through the visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile sensory systems. Our instruction is diagnostic and prescriptive, which allows us to tailor instruction to each individual’s unique needs, at the exact moment he needs it. We ensure that every child learns what is needed through the explicit presentation of information supported with direct instruction in how and when to use it. Finally, we provide scaffolded guidance in helping the student learn to apply it. All sessions are structured, systematic, sequential, and cumulative. At The Ford Center for Reading, we do not leave any aspect of learning to chance and we gradually step back from supportive hands-on instruction to allow the student to claim ownership of his skills and the independence and success that accompany it, when he is ready.
The Ford Center for Reading believes that preventive medicine is the best of its kind and prevention is paramount™ for us when it comes to reading problems. Just as healthy habits prevent conditions such as diabetes from becoming obstacles to a happy productive life, we strive to avert reading difficulties, which if not detected and treated early on can become a lifelong battle to manage and overcome. We are proud to be pioneers in promoting and offering effective instruction and practice from a child’s first formal reading lessons, before deficits can become lifelong conditions.
Finally, we know that not every child’s struggle will be recognized nor treated appropriately early on. Furthermore, the more time passes, the harder it is to remediate a skill deficit as the gap increases exponentially between current and expected levels of functioning over time. Students who toil in learning to read feel overwhelmed. In turn, these students often become more difficult to treat after long periods of underachievement, partially due to the added emotional stress that accompanies their unsuccessful efforts. In recognition of this predicament, we make certain that our work is fast-paced, intensive, emotionally sound, and supportive. We know that your child can accomplish his goals with appropriate effective instruction of a sufficient duration- and we make sure he knows it, too.

All this is The Ford Difference.
