Assessment
The Ford Center for Reading conducts a formal assessment with every child entering our programs and on-going assessment informs our daily work. There are four types of formal assessments, each with a different focus.
Diagnostic Assessment
This extensive 3.5 hours evaluation may be used independently of our programs to determine an individual’s achievement profile, or it can be used to gain entry to our remedial program.
Screening Assessment
Specifically designed for students in grades K, 1, 2, and 3 who seek entry into our preventive program, the 10-30 minute screening looks at critical reading skills and is used to determine a child’s placement in the program.
Progress Monitoring Assessment
Conducted every month with students in the preventive program, this 10-15
minute evaluation is used to conclude whether specific objectives have been met.
Outcome Assessment
Available to students exiting our remedial program, this measure is used to determine
whether skills have improved and provides additional data for further recommendations.
